“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Woolf.
I rarely have expectations of anything as I hate to feel disappointed, but on occasions when I do have expectations, I love it when something surpasses those expectations. Unfortunately for me, it doesn’t happen as often as I’d love. But when it does, it changes my perspectives and level of excitement. Especially when it comes to food.
I first stumbled on La Brioche while scrolling through my Instagram feed and from what I saw, I felt that I had to try them out. The first time I visited La Brioche was to interview Nancy Isime for Genevieve Magazine. Before then, I had eaten a takeout of Waffles and Chicken from there but never visited so it was cool to see what this place from where I had eaten looked like. I was not disappointed. I was struck by how the ambience, the food, and the staff came together to give a distinct experience.
From the name, I had guessed that it had some French influence and I was curious about it. France is one of my dream vacation destinations and until I set aside the necessary financial requirements and time to visit, the logical next best thing is to visit a restaurant which serves French-inspired food.
On my next visit, I had a little chat with the Manager and I fell in love with La Brioche’s ethos of creating true French-inspired fine dining in Nigeria. Nowadays, almost every pastry shop serves some form of French pastry or the other, so distinguishing what is really inspired by the French could be difficult, especially for someone like me who is yet to visit France. But thanks to my love of food and the internet, I know well enough to handle that.
Dining from the Breakfast menu, we began with a cheeky cup of Cappuccino served with some perfectly fluffy Pancakes and some Toast. All were served with Strawberries, Blueberries, and Honey.
Our next dishes to arrive were these large bowls of Salad; an option for Chicken lovers that had enough Avocado and Tomatoes for that smooth texture in your mouth, and the Chicken which was beautifully cooked added a good meaty depth to it.
The second Salad option was a Tuna Salad bowl with a creamy dressing which gave it an extra punch of flavour and texture.
I found it really difficult to find fault from our morning at La Brioche. I was rather full by this point in our meal, but there was more. The Cocktails were a flavour-filled addition to the already great meal and it all went down with ease. Again – outstanding.
I’m glad I returned to La Brioche after the interview with Nancy as it meant I got to discover the experience of dining at an exquisite restaurant serving modern French food in a gorgeous dining room with colourful flowers above your head and impeccable service. France may not be on everyone’s travel bucket list, but La Brioche at Victoria Island should be.

XoXo,
NB: My meal was complimentary. But my views are, as always, my own. My views (and I) are not influenced by anyone other than my own palate and love of great food.
