“I think the first step in doing any new thing is to convince yourself that you’re ready to do it.” – Racheal Abiriba.
When Monah (as I call her) reached out to me to be interviewed, my first thought was “Ummm…you have it wrong.” You see, thanks to my job, I interview people. Not the other way. But rather than say all of that, I replied “YES!”
I’ve been trying to live outside of my comfort zone this year, so, doing this interview was one more step in that direction…living outside of my comfort zone. And guess what? I loved it!! I have put an excerpt of the interview below and a link to the full interview also. I hope you enjoy my first interview as much as I did.
Excerpts:
Q. This series is basically about Nigerian youths being able to manage profession and personal life. Can you tell us more about what you do and how you are able to juggle everything?
A. Okay, for a while now, almost 2 years to be precise, I haven’t practised Law in the strictest way. Rather, I have been working at Genevieve Magazine. As the Content Executive at Genevieve Magazine, I handle the creation of the content that makes it into the print issues of the Magazine, from interviews and features to articles and stories.
In my role as the Creative Director Of RAÉ Accessories, I handle the creation of designs for all the pieces produced while supervising the production process of those products.
As a Blogger, well, we already know what Lifestyle Bloggers do yes?
Q. What do you love about your work?
A. The Creative process. I love the power of dreaming something up and seeing it become reality. Whether it’s an interview or a bag, I love seeing something that was only a figment of my imagination become real. It’s like playing ‘god’, if only with words, images, and Leather.
Q. What have been your top 3 challenges so far?
A. Hmmmm…
Power for one. PHCN and the entire power situation in Nigeria frustrate production as we have to rely heavily on Generators and Diesel is not cheap.
Lagos Traffic! My God! Need I say more on this?
Funding. As It relates to my role at RAÉ Accessories, it’s quite challenging to run a business with a limited cash flow.
Q. Do you have a favourite quote to keep you inspired?
A. Do it now and rest later. Yes, I made that up for myself.
Q. Why did you start blogging?
A. To inspire.
As humans, we all have individually unique stories that can help build others up. I want to share things about my life, first with the hope that someone will read them and find what they are looking for, even if it’s just one piece of information.
