“Say to yourself, I am perfect, the way I am. Say to yourself, I am beautiful the way I am. Say to yourself, those who do not accept me the way I am, do not deserve me in their life.” – Abhijit Naskar.
I was never really interested in beauty, fashion, or my personal style until I was well into Senior Secondary School. And even then, I was too playful to take my image too seriously. That left me with cringe-worthy photos and style memories that make me want to cry, laugh, and go back in time to correct them all at once.
As I grow older, my skin is beginning to change and I am becoming more aware of how I look, how my skin feels, the products my skin loves, and those that I definitely need to stop using. I have grown to be more intentional about my style and beauty decisions and have grown to develop an everyday go-to look that has helped me put my look in order on those days when I can only spare 30 minutes before I run out of the door.
My go-to beauty look is a well-moisturised skin and spritz of perfume straight out of the shower, filled-in brows, light dustings of highlight on my eyelids and high points of my face, a light coat of mascara and eyeliner, and a tinted lipgloss to prevent ashy lips. A pair of jeans and a feminine blouse later, and voila! I’m ready to face the world in any of my favourite slides from an amazing made-in-Nigeria leather accessories store, RAE Accessories.
This is my easy-to-emulate, natural, everyday go-to look, that still has me looking polished, effortless, and comfortable, just the way it ought to be. Everyone needs to create an everyday go-to look that can be nailed in 30 minutes or less and doesn’t require a lot to pull off.
I am not religious with my use of Sunscreen but that’s one thing I want to work on (as soon as I find a Sunscreen that I love, blends into my skin easily, and isn’t scented or greasy).
So what’s your everyday go-to look?
P/S: The amazing Ndubuisi of Fruithloops Photography took these photos of me! I’m about to make him MY photographer, yes?
